Hi.

The other day a middle-aged recreational jogger was putzing around on FB, told a story to amuse herself, and "they" said she should blog, so she did. This is what you find here.

The Week I've Had

The Week I've Had

Well, what a week. On Monday morning, my boss asked for a quick pull-up (that is the term my company at times can use for a good talking-to) that immediately sent me into a tailspin, because he usually texts or Slacks me anything he needs to tell me. He started the pull-up by saying he had some sad news, and my sphincter clenched, pretty sure its ass was getting fired.

No, it turns out I’m getting transferred to a new organization in the company! I was surprised and almost cried in front of him, which would have been a catastrophe, but quickly rallied, because my new boss and my new team are awesome too. So yes, I’m sad to leave my current team, but excited to see what else is around the corner. “Your influence will expand,” he said, and you know I love my influence. More FB friends! More readers of my blog! I’m an influencer!!

Just kidding. Only my mom reads my blog. But I am loaded for bear. RAWR.

Onward.

I’m in the middle of trying to decide if I’m going to renovate my kitchen in the new year, but I’m having issues with finding someone who wants to take my money. Call after call to contractor after contractor, and they either ghost me after making an appointment or stop calling me back when I have questions. I am not “that” customer, guys. If I may say so, I’m a dream to work with. All my ex-bosses say so.

The pit bull next door has broken through my fence no less than five times, so a new fence is in order. That, in itself, may quash any plans for my kitchen, but at least the guy with C&T Fencing calls me back. He is an interesting guy: quiet, almost sullen, curt, but has the most glorious beard I’ve ever seen. I want to work with him to see if I can get him to smile behind his sunglasses — just once. It’s a quest now. An amusing challenge.

Holiday/Christmas parties galore! I started out with a girls’ party at my house on Sunday, moved on to a get together at a colleague’s house Monday evening, followed by a happy hour on Thursday, a happy hour next week and one the following week too. I love this season!

To top the week off — or to start the weekend — this morning I received news that one of my good friends from college who lives in Australia will probably be in town this summer! And then I was able to Zoom with my favorite college professor this evening. I’ve known these people for more than 25 years, and there’s nothing like old friends. New friends are great too.

And to circle back around to my transfer at work, that is why I was initially so upset starting out the week. I was telling a long-distance friend a few weeks ago that I literally have no friends in Dallas that I can call up and go out for a drink/dinner with. Sure, there’s my sister, but she has a thriving social life of her own. So I was really excited about the new work friends that I have made over the past year, and now, all that is something I’m afraid will dribble off into nothing. Proximity contributes to a lot in friendships, you know, but working in a different building does not contribute to building lasting connection.

So, yeah, change coming up! Stay tuned.
